President Signs Executive Order To Make America's Showers More Powerful
It rolls back a water-efficiency rule and promotes a years-long presidential grievance to federal policy.
In April 2025, the president signed an executive order taking direct aim at a long-simmering national concern: the water pressure of the American shower.
The order, titled “Maintaining Acceptable Water Pressure in Showerheads,” rolls back an Obama-era efficiency standard that treated the federal 2.5-gallon-per-minute limit as applying to a multi-nozzle showerhead in total, rather than to each nozzle separately. The president has complained about weak water pressure for years, frequently in connection with the maintenance of his hair.
Efficiency advocates note the standard was designed to conserve water in a country facing real and worsening scarcity across the West. The administration’s counter is that a man should simply be allowed to take a shower — a sentiment that is genuinely hard to argue with, apart from the detail that no one was preventing him.
It is the rare executive order aimed squarely at a grievance the president has been airing from podiums since roughly 2019, now upgraded, formally, to the law of the land.
